Spacesaver Corp.’s UWRmini™ Storage System Makes It Easy to Physically Transfer Stored Weapons and Accessories, Optimizes Limited Storage Space
Spacesaver Corp., a division of KI, Green Bay, Wis., introduces another military readiness first with the UWRmini™ Storage System: a lightweight and compact system that makes it easy for personnel to physically transfer stored weapons and accessories. The highly secure and slim system, which is 22.38 inches (568 mm) wide and available in four heights, also optimizes limited storage space found in arms rooms and transport containers, as well as on vehicles and watercraft.
The UWRmini Storage System offers the same unique features as the standard Spacesaver UWR™ Storage System, which established the benchmark in weapons storage racks specifically engineered to enhance operational and combat readiness. Virtually identical to the standard-size model, the narrow-profile UWRmini Storage System is designed to store smaller quantities of rifles and side arms, as well as accessories ranging from gear bags to optics.
“We essentially downsized the phenomenally successful UWR Storage System for situations when weapons and accessories need to be frequently lifted and carried from one spot to another,” said Spacesaver’s Military Market Director, Jane Glass. “The UWRmini Storage System also fits into very narrow confines to capitalize on every square inch of available storage space. In short, it represents another Spacesaver innovation ideally suited to the needs of a transformable and agile fighting force.”
The UWRmini Storage System is slightly more than half the width of the standard UWR Storage System and about 35 percent lighter, yet it has same depth and assortment of heights as the standard model. The unit is 16¼ (413 mm) inches deep and available in 18 (457 mm)-, 34 (864 mm)-, 45 (1143 mm)-, and 61½ (1,562 mm)-inch heights. The base system consists of a fully welded, heavy-gauge steel cabinet; side-hinged, single bi-fold door; robust locking bar; universal base; and support rail.
As with the standard-size system, users can pick from a host of interchangeable components to easily and cost-effectively configure the UWRmini Storage System to house a wide variety of rifles, side arms, gear, optics, and spare barrels. For example, with the universal base, stock cups and a vast array of accessories, the racks can accommodate a wide variety of weapons of varying lengths and types. Additionally, multiple weapons can be stored in a single system without the need to disassemble or re-zero the weapons. With minor interior adjustments, users can quickly adapt the UWRmini storage system to changes in the types of items stored and/or differences in how it’s accessed.
Additional highlights of the UWRmini Storage System, which can serve as a stand-alone unit or mount to a Spacesaver High-Density Mobile Storage system, include:
- Perforated doors, sides and rear wall: “See-through” panels simplify inventory assessments, while keeping weapons stored and highly secured.
- Modular, stackable design: Built with superior structural integrity, the cabinets are designed to be ganged together from inside – top-to-bottom, back-to-back, and side-to-side for maximum use of space.
- Versatile and protective supports: A support rail mounts inside the cabinet to suspend barrel supports and accessories. Barrel supports, which are dipped in PVC-coating, mount inside the cabinet and support rail, both store and protect the weapons.
- Locking bars and secure doors: Locking bars exceed military requirements for arms security of conventional arms, ammunitions and explosives (OPNAVINST 5530.13B and AR 190-11). A durable, welded door hinge prevents tampering with doors and meets OPNAVINST 5530.13B and AR 190-11.
- Bin systems: A single cabinet may contain multiple bin systems. The bins can be used to store gear, optics, ammo clips, ammo boxes, or spare barrels. No tools or fasteners are needed to install, remove or modify the bin system.
- Transport components: Patent-pending components prevent the weapons from movement, vibration, shock and abrasion. All components and cabinets pass accidental shock and load tests. The system can be tilted 90 degrees in any direction without weapons becoming dislodged, or coming in contact with each other or with other components in the rack. Ergonomically placed handles also allow for easy gripping and a comfortable lift. A transportability cart is built with industrial-grade casters for smooth movement.
