The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas recently built a new 66,000 square foot building to house the most comprehensive collection of Spanish art outside of Spain. High-density storage systems were utilized in four different storage areas to provide enough capacity to house the expanding permanent collections, as well as provide safe storage for exhibits. A powered art rack houses more than 150 paintings in the permanent collection. A high-density mobile system was designed with art racks for hanging art, as well as shelving for larger bulky objects. Drawers are used for the works-on-paper collection. A third art rack is utilized in another storage area for temporary exhibit storage. A custom designed overhead canopy spans the entire carriage length to provide a dust barrier when aisles are closed, further protecting the exposed, hanging artwork. Storage solutions (design, layout and installation) provided by Craig Crock, Southwest Solutions Group, Addison, Texas, in conjunction with Spacesaver Corporation.
