When the Nebraska Heart Institute recently built their own 92,000-square-foot Heart Hospital, it was important for everything in it to be in line with their patient-focused philosophy and up to par with their state-of-the-art technologies. Even the materials storage areas had to look as good as they functioned efficiently. To fulfill a request for pullout racks to store long, skinny packages of catheters, Spacesaver not only designed a special storage system, but also customized it so it could be located at point of use —within the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Procedure Room — to increase efficiency and productivity. Custom glass doors keep shelves and supplies contaminant-free, while facilitating quick visual locating of catheters, coronary stents, dressings and other supplies. In both the OR Sterile Supply and the Catheter Lab Central Storage areas, powered high-density mobile storage was selected for its cutting-edge technology and ease of use. The mobile systems effectively double the capacity of each storage area and provide quick, safe access to items stored. Storage solutions (design, layout and installation) provided by Taylor Gilbreath, Midwest Storage Solutions, Nebraska, in conjunction with Spacesaver Corporation. ![]() “What was most accommodating about Spacesaver was their willingness to think outside the box. I told them what materials we needed to store and where, and they designed it, customized to our needs.” — Jackie R. Mendoza
