Located 30 miles north of Dallas, Texas the McKinney Police Department is as one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities of its size. Along with its rapid growth in population, McKinney PD is had to accommodate to ensure that the safety of its residents was never compromised. The city built a new 84,000 square foot, state-of-the-art public safety building.
Even in the old facility, McKinney police knew that evidence storage was a top priority. Before when processing evidence, there was a tight space where only one officer could work at a time and others had to wait. The old operation system involved 12 different keys and evidence personnel would need to report on weekends to clear lockers, or virtually anytime of day or night to deposit evidence. This led to a sufficient breakdown in evidence storage procedures.

Within the new facility, the evidence space is now three times the size. Working with Spacesaver and Southwest Solutions they were able to strategically develop a focused approach to evidence storage procedures. A unique mix of advanced evidence storage systems are used and were all tailored to match McKinney PD procedures. The systems include six keyless pass-through evidence lockers that are built into the wall that separates the evidence from the deposit area, four double-walled refrigerated compartments for biological evidence, an eclipse powered mobile system for use in the property room and a custom built stationary shelving unit for larger items.
In addition to McKinney, we’ve helped departments of all sizes create more efficient, organized, and safe solutions for their evidence storage—leading to the achievement of best practices in evidence storage procedures. Take a look at how Pennsylvania’s Bensalem Police Department was able to redesign their short- and long-term evidence storage—and take a valuable step towards state and CALEA accreditation.
