Before Spacesaver’s recent acquisition of Viking Metal Cabinet Company, the two firms collaborated closely at several prestigious institutions. One of their most innovative collaborations involved the creation of an immersive learning environment at the Wurtele Study Center at an Ivy League University.
As the oldest college art museum in the United States, the University Art Gallery has been assembling a diverse collection, both in terms of origin and medium, since 1832. But the collection was largely inaccessible to both the University academic community and the public. The institution wanted to create a facility that would store and display the collection’s most important works.
After extensive product testing, Viking was selected to provide the custom museum storage cabinets for the project. In collaboration with other top quality vendors, Spacesaver and Viking were able to create a sleek, functional, open learning environment that “answers the question of what kinds of facilities are possible,” in the words of Principal Architect Jeff Weatherston of WeatherstonBruer Associates.
