Integrating Storage Across Campus
How Adaptability Starts with Flexible Storage
What's in the presentation?
Planning spaces for higher education environments is about much more than lecture halls, athletics facilities, and dorms. Today's campuses are designed to support learning and working, socializing and relationship-building, wellness and discovery, and so much more.
This presentation will show you how to design facilities that not only help recruit and retain students and faculty, but also manage risk, improve efficiencies and safety, and help create flexible, future-proof spaces. It will also outline trends and challenges that are impacting campus facility design and demonstrate how thoughtful storage solutions can help create highly functional interior spaces and directly influence a campus’ ability to achieve its mission.
This presentation counts toward 1 AIA or IDCEC LU|HSW Credit.
Course Objectives:
- Demonstrate how interior architecture can support evolving programming and space needs by incorporating storage solutions that provide safety features, promote ease of use, and that are compliant with codes to ensure occupant wellness and safety.
- Gain confidence in the ability to specify storage solutions at higher education institutions and customize spaces for the purposes of recruitment, retention, and promoting the institution's brand.
- Develop strategies for integrating mobile storage solutions, lockers, and cabinets into existing building conditions and combat space constraints, support efficiency, and address structural and floor loading concerns.
- Understand how compact storage and other storage strategies can support sustainability goals in renovations or new construction and help achieve LEED® certification.
