A Quarter Century System

A prestigious university chose Spacesaver to provide electronically powered mobile shelving for its two largest libraries about 25 years ago. The controls worked reliably ever since, opening aisles with the press of a button. But eventually, like many electronic devices, the electronic controls on the Spacesaver systems required an update. The electronics manufacturer no longer made parts to support the systems’ upkeep.

Electronic Moving Shelves Solution

The university opted to update the old electronics with Spacesaver’s Eclipse Powered System® with Touch Technology™ Control. That’s because they knew the investment would significantly extend the life of the university’s high-density shelving at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new system, and the streamlined conversion process would minimize downtime and disruption.

Power Upgrades

Over the course of a few weeks, the main library’s aging electronics were updated to a new, state-of-the-art system. The updated electronics performed so well that the university asked Spacesaver technicians to come back to campus to update the electronics in the law school library three years later. Conversion processes in both libraries were scheduled for the summer months, when most classes were not in session, and the conversions went smoothly and were finished on time.
