The ability to increase efficiency within a given space can allow users the useful life of their facilities far beyond what may have been thought possible. Despite these measures, there comes a time when the finite amount of space available is just not enough for the ever-evolving need presented.
This was the case for the Mishawaka Police Department in Indiana. Housed in an aging building with limited opportunities for structural and technological expansion, the department needed a drastic update to aptly support their existing staff and continue to attract high-quality candidates for current and future openings. Working with city administrators, department heads were facing either a significant investment in the existing building or a move to a newer, larger facility.
Centering On A Solution
Driven by a mayor who saw the value combining the Police Department, City Hall, and Utilities Services in one building would bring to the community, a vacant building in the heart of the city was chosen as the new hub. While this was a major obstacle in the process of establishing a new home for the Police Department, administrators knew they needed help in effectively outfitting the new facility.
This is where they called in their local Spacesaver representative to help with every stage of the process, ensuring each sector had the optimal solutions for supporting and protecting their officers and the community they serve.
Seeking Out Reinforcement
Knowing this would be a substantial project geared toward long-term viability, our storage expert gave decision makers at the Police Department a first-hand look at what our solutions can do by taking them through existing department projects we’ve completed. From these in-person and on paper meetings, chiefs from each sector were able to better identify the must-haves, nice-to-haves, and “I didn’t know you could do that” items.
Bringing It All Together
The end result featured solutions for a wide range of uses including evidence processing, weapons storage, personal and professional storage, and record keeping. With these in place, sworn officers and supporting staff can more efficiently and accurately carry out their mission to protect and serve the community.
