In recent years, the athletic facilities at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth have undergone numerous renovations and expansions-mirroring, in many ways, the rise in national prominence of its sports programs.
Still, as members of the Big 12, the TCU football team may not be considered a perennial powerhouse, but the Horned Frogs sure get the most of what they have to work with. And the same goes for their equipment storage.
Craig Crock of Southwest Solutions Group in Addison, TX designed the team’s original football equipment storage system, which involved conventional HD mobile shelving and, well, some not-so-conventional shelving solutions.
The football team’s locker rooms, equipment storage, weight room and laundry facilities are located in the Walsh Physical Performance Complex, which is situated in the space under the basketball arena’s seating. In short, there were nooks and crannies to be filled to utilize all of their available space.
The heart of the original installation was a mechanical-assist HD mobile system that featured a work-counter-high carriage. Only its mobility wasn’t limited to the track. It was also equipped with wheels, so equipment staff could roll it onto the field and easily adjust helmets and shoulder pads. Drawers and under-shelving stored and organized all the items they needed to do their jobs.
The second highlight of the project was creating the custom, stair-step shelving to fit under the angled ceiling line. Shelving and garment racks were used to accommodate a variety of needs.
The laundry room featured stationary shelving that allowed for rolling bins to fit in at the bottom, while angled ceilings in the weight room left no room for mobile shelving solutions. Craig simply lined the entire room with wall-mounted shelves from Spacesaver.
The client loved it. In fact, Craig’s initial effort has led to additional projects at TCU- including starting from scratch with the football team’s equipment storage, thanks to recent expansion. Whatever the request, or however big or small the space is, Craig knows how to come through for his teams.
